    [Houston, Texas Photo Album, 1911.]

    Add to my list
    Creator:
    Warshaw, Isadore, d. 1969 (collector).
    Title:
    [Houston, Texas Photo Album, 1911.]
    Phy. Description:
    0.1 cu. ft.: 1 box.
    1 album, unbound, 11" x 15-1/2" (28.0 x 39.4 cm.).
    345 items: photoprints.
    Medium :
Silver gelatin paper prints, various sizes, glued on album pages.
    Scope and Content:
Album of photographs with hand-lettered title page, "Houston / Texas / 1911"; but many photographs were made elsewhere. Some, especially those of a "City Park," St. Louis Cathedral, the Cabildo, and above-ground cemeteries, depict New Orleans. 345 photoprints, all presumably silver gelatin (possibly some collodion prints also), in a wide range of styles. Some may be by professionals, especially the portraits, while others are clearly amateur snapshots. Subjects include city street scenes and an Army barracks and tents. Tarpon fishing pictures might have been taken in Florida. See also subject descriptors listed below.
    Organization:
Album of photographs. Unarranged: original order of pages uncertain.
    Provenance:
Provenance unclear. As the album was found in the Archives Center vault, it may be part of the original Warshaw accession or a later acquisition by curator Dr. John Hoffman.
