    Dr. Paul Singer (1904-1997), medical doctor and neuro-psychiatrist, was an avid collector of Chinese art.
    Summary: 
    The Papers include biographical data; correspondence; legal and financial material; writings, including his unpublished memoir and drafted catalog of the Singer collection; publications; and photographs depicting Singer, his family and friends, early days in Vienna, and his collection of Chinese art objects. The papers provide research support for the Paul Singer Collection, the largest single group of Chinese works of art acquired by the Gallery since it opened to the public in 1987.

Biographical data; Awards; Correspondence (including two letters received from Noel Barnard, dated 16 July 1971 and 3 May 1974, the containing an enclosure of coresspondence and a printed announcement regarding Barnard's various publications; and Singer's photocopies of collected documents regarding the provenance of the Ch'u silk manuscript, including correspondence between collection John Hadley Cox and Alan Reed Priest, the Curator of Far Eastern Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a bibliography, and a receipt pf transfer from the Cox collection); Writings; Printed Material; Sketchbook; Photographs; Artifact.

    Provenance: 
    Donations received in part from Dr. Paul Singer in 1991 and after his death in 1997, from the executrix of his estate, Ms. Margit Elsohn, in 2000.
