    Bio / His Notes:
An awards program established in 1989 as a partnership between Computerworld Magazine and the Smithsonian Institution, the CWSA program brought together the Chairmen or Chief Executive Officers of the world's foremost information technology companies with the world's leading universities, libraries and research instutitions to document a revolution in progress: the global information technology revolution. The program was dedicated to identifying the men and women, organizations and institutions leading this revolution and to recording the impact of their achievements on society. New organizations were chosen annually by a panel. Those organizations were asked to contribute case studies regarding their projects to the CWSA collection. Nominated projects were sorted into ten categories and winners were selected by a panel of distinuished representatives in each specialty. In 2001 the Smithsonian severed its affiliation with the CWSA program, though it continued under the sole auspices of Computerworld magazine.

For each nomination, the collection includes a packet of primary source materials about the project, in addition to a standard questionnaire which each nominee completed and an essay about the significance of the project. Hence, each case study includes a wealth of information about the project, and may include such things as oral history interviews, conference proceedings, publications, video tapes, photographs, slides, software, product samples, and other things.
