    Bio / His Notes: 
    Painter and etcher; Jackson, New Hampshire and Boston, Massachusetts. A native of Hampton, New Hampshire and self-taught, Turner had several studios in Boston where he lived beginning in the 1870s for about forty years. He summered in Hampton, and later in the White Mountains at Jackson.
    Biographical material; letters; artworks; sketchbook; sketches; etching plates; photographs; and miscellany.
    REEL 2040: Biographical material; 3 letters received regarding portrait commissions; an illustrated letter to his granddaughter; 6 oil paintings, including a self-portrait, ca. 1890; 5 watercolors, including 2 of his studio and a sketchbook of watercolors; 16 etching plates and 3 prints; an annotated catalog and a price list of Turner's paintings sold at auction, 1910; a book, The Art of Painting and Drawing in Coloured Crayons, by Henry Murray, 1875; a floor plan of Turner's studio; 2 glass negatives of his paintings; 3 silk etchings by Edmund H. Garrett; and printed miscellany.
    REEL 2062: Photographs, ca. 1890-1908, of Turner, his wife, his New Hampshire studio, and works of art; a photo album and 75 loose photos of scenes of Boston and Germany, ca. 1900; and 2 photos of Adolphe Lesrel's Paris studio, 1889.
    REEL 4781: Ca. 20 charcoal, graphite and pastel drawings and a watercolor depict Turner, his wife (?) "Zephi", unidentified people, a monogram, studio interior, the Mission San Jose in San Antonio, Texas, landscapes, and seascapes. There are also two charcoal landscapes by Edmund H. Garrett and [Emil?] Carlsen.
    Material on reels 2040 and 2062 donated 1973 & 1979 by Miss G. Frances Souther, granddaughter of Turner. Drawings on reel 4781 lent for microfilming in 1993 by Robert and Connie Rosen, antiques dealers, who purchased them at auction. The drawings may have come from Miss Souther's estate.
